It was actually my very first yoga instructor who recommended I try Pilates. While I had heard of "pilates" I really had no idea what it was or even that it was named after a real person. I signed myself up for a class and the rest is history. After a few months I honestly felt like I had a whole different body. One that moved better. One that felt better. It was (and still is!) nothing short of amazing.
Pilates made me confident enough to try all kinds of different exercise. I started hiking, then running, then trail running. A consistent Pilates practice helped me train for several mountain climbing events, trail races, half marathons and even one ultra marathon.
Pilates was always my cross training for it all.... or were the other activities my cross training for Pilates? It was my favorite workout by far. I loved getting stronger and learning new progressions and more and more advanced exercises. It seemed to be endless! And it still does!
While my running days may be mostly behind me at this point, there will always be a place for a Pilates practice in my life. It just makes everything better!
Since my first Pilates class in 2010, I have explored practicing with many different instructors who were trained in both classical and contemporary styles of Pilates. I aim to offer my clients a mix of classical foundation work and contemporary exploration in every session.
